Studio Ice in Kentucky

After a long day's drive, we're ready for some hockey. Since Ohio had a big storm recently, most of our mid-point base station was closed to clean up from the "flood." Had there been any hills in Ohio, or had it sucked a little less, that 4 inches of rain would have run down into the sewers and we could have played hockey in Sports Plus, Sharonville. Pretty inconsiderate of Ohio to let this happen, eh?

We ended up in Kentucky. The rink was pretty small. Smaller than you think. Really small. Lengthwise, it was smaller than a standard rink is wide. It was so small there are nets built directly into the boards at the ends so you don't lose all that space behind the nets. I would imagine that people used to skating on backyard rinks are right at home. The ice was rough, too, like a pond. Mike still swears he hit a tree branch or a stump or something out there.

This one is a little large. Andy took a series of shots for panoramic effect. There's a neat distortion of the shape of the rink this way.

I'm pretty sure there was a puck around here somewhere.

Shields are about useless here in the fog

No, guys. The puck's over there.

How Kentuckians dress for hockey

Is that it?

Aha, it went into the corner.

From just outside the rink.

The net in the boards.

The real goal net.
