A Bauer ad that used to be a single sheet, now done in flash.

Well, what can I say? All the F&#@ing internet providers are just too greedy. ^@%#$ pop-up windows everywhere. Fortunecity sucks more than tripod, but tripod lured me in with promises of being able to choose banners OR pop-unders. They still have the choice button but it doesn't change anything and both banners and pop-unders are on this page. Sorry about that. To make matters worse, they also reduced the allowable size of storage (making me create other accounts to keep these pages up)... well, shit. I suppose it is (theoretically and academically) free, after all.

So, if you hate sales weasels and companies that inundate the web with all their damn advertising, fight back.

Here's what to do NOW:
1) Return any DVD with ads that force you to watch the ad before getting to the menu... Make sure to write to the production company and calmly explain that you returned it because you refuse to pay for their advertising and invite them to contact you when they release the same movie at the same price without the forced ads. Would you put up with a CD that played a commercial before it let you choose a song? I think not!

2) Write to me at the address below and give me the details. I'll compile them and maybe we'll get enough to do something about it. There's strength in numbers, friends! Give me just the facts: Movie title, production company, city purchased/returned, price paid/refunded, and date letter was mailed. I won't use, rent, lease, sell, distribute, -or whatever- any of your personal information. Hell, that's why we call it PERSONAL. It isn't for every damn advertising firm to know about it. In fact, I'll delete the original after copying the facts about the returned DVD.

3) Visit DNS KONG and learn about ad-blocking. There's a really cool trick where you get a list of all the major advertisers and junkmailers on the net and you give your PC or Mac false information about those companies. Since your PC can't find the companies after that, you don't see any more ads! Sure, the pop-up window still pops up, but at least it's blank now.

4) Support Junk-Busters and tell them you want to see them combat these invasive ads on movies like they battle the marketing scum on the web.

Write me at wg@hockey_NOSPAM_mail.com
You'll need to remove the _NOSPAM_ part. This is done so fewer robots will be able to grab my address and send me junk mail. Death to spam and its minions of evil, annoying advertising!
